Conditions

ageing

Overaged

Reduced-strength condition with altered conductivity and precipitate state.

ageing

Peak aged

High-strength/high-conductivity precipitation-aged condition.

heat treatment

Solution treated

Supersaturated precursor condition.

03

Processing and use

Processing

  • Solution treatment, quench, cold work and aging establish the conductivity–strength balance.
  • Overheating or welding can locally overage and soften the alloy.

Applications

  • Resistance-welding electrodes
  • High-heat-flux components
  • Electrical contacts
  • Mould and tooling inserts

Selection considerations

  • Specify conductivity and hardness together; chemistry alone does not define condition.
  • Joining route must preserve the precipitation-hardened state.

Sources and context

Sources

Confirm the applicable specification, product form and condition before using values for design or procurement.

Supply and sustainability

Available as bar, plate, forgings and specialized high-conductivity products.

High copper value supports recycling; service-life extension in electrodes and thermal components can reduce replacement frequency.

Strategic context

Established engineering material with documented processing–performance relationships.
