Conditions
As cast
Conventional cast condition.
LPBF as-built
As-built additive condition; orientation and parameter set required.
Stress relieved
Stress-relieved additive condition; cycle must be stated.
T6-type heat treated
Solution-treated and aged route; exact cycle required.

Processing and use
Processing
- Build orientation, scan strategy, powder condition and stress relief govern anisotropy and defect population.
- Hot isostatic pressing can reduce internal porosity but changes cost and microstructure.
Applications
- Lightweight brackets
- Heat exchangers
- Housings
- Topology-optimized components
Selection considerations
- Do not transfer cast properties directly to additively manufactured material.
- Fatigue performance is highly sensitive to surface condition and defects.

Supply and sustainability
Broad powder availability, but powder reuse limits and oxygen control differ among qualification systems.
Near-net-shape production can reduce buy-to-fly ratio; powder atomization and inert processing are energy intensive.
Strategic context
Established engineering material with documented processing–performance relationships.
