Processing and use

Processing

  • Surface finish, pickling and passivation are decisive for corrosion performance.
  • Welding is generally straightforward, but heat tint should be removed for demanding service.

Applications

  • Chemical and pharmaceutical equipment
  • Marine fittings
  • Medical and food equipment
  • Welded piping and vessels

Selection considerations

  • Not immune to chloride SCC or seawater crevice corrosion.
  • Specify product form, surface condition and acceptance criteria for critical service.

Sources and context

Sources

Confirm the applicable specification, product form and condition before using values for design or procurement.

Supply and sustainability

Widely available; medical, pressure and additive applications require route-specific qualification.

High recyclability and long corrosion-resistant service life can offset higher alloy content.

Strategic context

Established engineering material with documented processing–performance relationships.
